Today I'm sharing a get ready with me video where I try a makeup technique called underpainting that's been going viral on TikTok!
I first heard about underpainting many years ago, from the drag community, but recently this technique blew up on TikTok when celebrity artist, Mary Phillips, shared a tutorial of her version of this technique.
So I took some inspiration from underpainting artists and tried this technique for myself! Watch the video below to see how I did it.

My takeaway from doing this technique is that the contour looked more subtle and soft, the highlighted areas looked natural and overall the base was giving natural everyday makeup.
I did use a very sheer foundation for this technique which allowed the underpainting to show through, however, if I were to have used a full coverage foundation, I don't think it'd give the same effect.
In conclusion, will I be using the technique when doing my makeup? No, because I found it took longer than my normal makeup routine. Would I use this technique for special occasions? Not really, because I go full glam for a special occasion, and in my opinion, a full coverage foundation would just hide the underpainting.
I'll just stick to my normal makeup routine, but trying this technique was so much fun!
