Make Up For Ever Ultra HD Perfector Review

On Tuesday of last week I received my VoxBox from Influenster and was so excited to see that it was in collaboration with Make Up For Ever. Inside the VoxBox was the all new Ultra HD Perfector along with a card containing information and details about the product.

The Ultra HD Perfector is a sheer-to-medium skin tint with an SPF 25. According to the Sephora website it's suitable for sensitive, normal, dry and combination skin types. This product claims to have a natural long lasting finish, weightless formula with blurring effects and long lasting hydration.

You can purchase this exclusively at Sephora (in-stores and online) and on the Make Up For Ever website. The full sized product of 1.01 oz retails for $36.

It is available in 10 shades, with each individual shade spanning uniquely across multiple skin tones. Ten shades may not sound like a lot but in comparison to most skin tints available it's more than the average. The packaging is a clear plastic squeeze tube with black labeling and a screw on cap making it travel friendly!

Influenster sent me the shade 04 - Golden Sand which actually matched my skin pretty well. For skin-tone reference my shade at MAC is NC20. When I initially swatched the product onto my arm the color looked too light but after a few minutes it did oxidize just a bit.

Photographed below is the product swatch in shade 04 once it has oxidized.
Before I give you my thoughts on this product I'd like to mention that I personally have oily and acne prone skin and am fully aware that this product is not targeted for those with my skin type and/or skin concerns.

Over the course of a few days I tested this skin tint in a couple of different ways to see in which way it applied and wore best. I'm now going to share what worked and what didn't work for me.

Day 1 - I prepped my skin like I normally would before applying foundation, beginning with my daily moisturizer then following up with my Smashbox Pore Minimizing primer. The MUFE website suggests to apply the product using your fingertips so that's exactly how I applied it. As I was blending the product onto my skin I began to notice that the skin tint was clinging onto my primer giving my skin and all over dry and flaky appearance. By the end my face did look more even in skin tone however it did not conceal my acne by any means and my skins texture continued to look pretty bad.

Day 2 - This time I prepped my skin with only moisturizer since the primer did not work well with the skin tint and I applied the product using the same suggested method as day one. Unfortunately the skin tint clung onto my acne which emphasized it a lot more and by the end of the day my face was very oily.

Day 3 - I decided to give it one last try the following day only this time I exfoliated my face for a smoother surface and once again prepped my skin with my daily moisturizer. This time I applied the skin tint with a damp Real Techniques sponge and was blown away by the successful application. Exfoliating the skin prior then applying the skin tint using a damp beauty sponge made a huge difference, it laid smoothly on the skin and did not cling to anything - I highly recommend taking these steps for the best application. By the end of the day the skin tint faded in the areas where I get oily.

Overall I did not like how this product alone wore on me personally. It did even out my skin tone and blurred my skins imperfections a bit however it wasn't very long lasting, as I mentioned it faded in certain areas and left my skin looking very oily by the end of the day.

Edit + Update: During my three-day trial period I wore the Ultra HD Perfector by itself, I did not use setting powder or setting spray because I wanted to see how it would perform on its own. After posting this review I realized that I needed to include how the Perfector wore with a full face of makeup. These are the details of everything I wore on my skin along with the skin tint and my final thoughts on how it wore. I started with my daily moisturizer then applied the skin tint onto my face using a damp Real Techniques sponge, next I applied concealer to the areas that needed extra coverage. After that I set my face with the NYX Stay Matte Powder foundation and warmed up the skin using the L'Oreal True Match Powder. Lastly, I applied my MAC Melba blush and finished off with Mary-Lou Manizer highlight. My final thoughts on how this product wore with a full face of makeup are pretty good. I believe the powders are what really prolonged the longevity of this product, the powders also kept my oil under control. Final advise for those with my skin type is to exfoliate your skin prior to application, apply this product with a damp beauty sponge, for extra coverage spot conceal using a concealer and set with powder (and setting spray if needed).

In my opinion, this product is ideal for those who are looking for something with lighter coverage and a more natural finish. As well as for those who aren't fans of heavy foundations and want a product more suitable for everyday wear. For someone like myself whose skin requires more coverage, this alone own won't do much and if your skin type is oily like mine keep in mind that this does nothing in terms of oil control as it's not targeted for oily skin.

I hope today's beauty product review was helpful. Thank you to Influenster for the complimentary VoxBox! This product was sent to me for review purposes and as always all of my opinions are completely honest and my own. If you don't know about Influenster and would like to know more you can read all about it in my previous post. I shared how you can join and potentially get sent VoxBoxes of free products to test and review.

Until next time friends, take care!
