Beauty Q+A

Q+A's are a great way to get to know someone so today I thought I'd answer some beauty related questions that I found on the worldwide web so you can know a little more about me.

Let's begin...

Q: Do you remember your first makeup item?
A: The first makeup product I ever used was an eyeliner pencil that I borrowed from a friend back in middle school. When my mom found out she advised me that it wasn't safe to share products and took me makeup shopping. I remember I chose a neutral Covergirl eyeshadow trio, mascara and an eyeliner pencil. Word of advice: do not share eye makeup products, you could get an eye infection!

Q: Describe your perfect mascara. Have you found one that fits your specifications?
A: To be completely honest I'm not picky when it comes to my mascaras, the only thing I look for is a waterproof formula. My lashes are so short, mascaras don't really have much of an impact, however waterproof mascaras do hold the curl of my lashes.

Q: What kind of coverage do you prefer from foundation?
A: Full-to-medium. If it's not full-medium coverage I'm not interested. My skin has a lot of hyper-pigmentation and redness from acne scaring and active breakouts that I prefer fuller coverage foundations as oppose to lighter coverage.

Q: Favorite high-end brand?
A: This question is tough because I don't really have a favorite. But based on the high-end makeup products I own I'd say Anastasia Beverly Hills and MAC Cosmetics. I don't own any luxury high-end beauty brands like Tom Ford, Marc Jacobs and so on.

Q: What cosmetic brand have you always wanted to try but still haven't?
A: Giorgio Armani Beauty. I've heard so many positive things about their foundations that I'm very intrigued to try it out, I just can't get myself to spend that much money on a foundation. Would you spend $64 on 1 oz. of foundation?

Q: Favorite drugstore brand?
A: First place goes to Maybelline, they have great products for an affordable price tag which I greatly appreciate. My favorite collection from Maybelline is the Fit Me collection. Second place would have to go to NYX Cosmetics, they also have tons of really good products for a fair price. My favorite product from NYX has to be the Micro Brow Pencil, I've gone through at least four of them!

Q: Do you wear fake eyelashes?
A: Of course! My makeup looks incomplete if I don't add falsies. My natural lashes are practically non-existent so lashes are a must. They make a world of a difference for me that I can't do my makeup without them.

Q: What is your can't-live-without product?
A: I'm going to say my Estee Lauder double wear foundation because that's my most used and most purchased product. We're going on four years strong so I guess you can say our relationship is pretty serious haha!

Q: What is your most cherished beauty product?
A: A Too Faced Sweet Peach Palette and a set of Flirt Cosmetics duo shadows because they were given to me by Priscilla Ono, she's one of my favorite celebrity makeup artists as well as an inspiration.

Q: Do you have a "beauty budget" or spend freely?
A: I'll typically set a budget for myself otherwise I'll go a little nuts and spend way too much! I think we've all been there, we say we're going in for one thing and walk out with more.

Q: Do you utilize coupons, rewards cards and sales when you shop for cosmetics?
A: Yes, I can always appreciate anything that saves me money when shopping.

Q: What type of products do you buy the most of?
A: Definitely base products like primers, foundations and concealers. Also the NYX micro brow pencils.

Q: How often do you shop for makeup? Do you like to pick up an item here and there or get lots of goodies at once?
A: Surprisingly, I don't shop for makeup very often. I mostly shop for it when I've ran out of my favorite products. I like to get things here and there because I've come to the conclusion that when I get lots of stuff at once I usually end up buying products I don't need.

Q: What is a makeup product you dislike?
A: A few years ago I tried out the Makeup Forever HD Foundation because everyone was raving about it and I did not like it at all on my skin. The coverage was too sheer for me and the formula just didn't work well in combination with my oily skin. I looked like a grease ball within an hour of wearing it.

Q: Do you avoid certain ingredients in cosmetics such as parabens and or sulfates?
A: I try to, specifically in products that sit on my skin like my primers and foundations (especially skincare). However, I will admit that not every cosmetic product I own is free of parabens and sulfates.

Q: Do you have a favorite place to shop for makeup?
A: My top three places to shop for makeup are my local H-E-B, Ulta and Sephora. For those of you who aren't from Texas, H-E-B is a grocery store chain, my local H-E-B carries a large range of drugstore brands and they frequently have coupons which is why I love purchasing my drugstore favorites there. Ulta also has lots of deals and coupons as well which is why it's my second favorite and then Sephora is where I purchase beauty brands that aren't sold at Ulta.

Q: Do you like to try out new skincare products or do you keep a certain routine?
A: I'm not oppose to trying out new skincare products however when I find something that I like and works well with my skin I'll stick to it.

Q: Favorite bath and body brand?
A: I don't have a tried and true brand that I'm obsessed with, I guess you could say I'm still on the hunt for it. I'm currently using an all natural lavender bar soap (I don't know the brand) and a Burts Bees body lotion. What I do know is that I like all-natural ingredients in my bath and body products.

Q: If you could only buy from one brand, which brand would you choose?
A: First brand that comes to mind is MAC Cosmetics because they carry every product under the sun needed to create any makeup look and they have a wide range of shades and colors.

Q: What brand do you think has the best packaging?
A: Too Faced! Whoever designs and creates the packaging for Too Faced does an outstanding job. Every collection has it's own theme and it's always super cute.

Q: Which celebrity always has great makeup?
A: Hands down it's the Kardashians. They each have amazing makeup artists that inspire so many of us in the makeup community. My favorite makeup artists from the Kardashians squad are Mario Dedivanovic, Ariel Tejada and Patrick Ta.

Q: Do you belong to any online makeup communities?
A: I do not belong to any but I am joined to beauty related communities on Google+. You too can join a makeup community if you have a Google+ account! :)

Q: Who are your five favorite beauty gurus?
A: When I hear the word beauty guru I think beauty YouTuber so I'm going to share my top five. Nicole Guerriero, she's my day one, the first person I ever watched on YouTube. I've been watching her videos since 2010 and still keep up with all of her uploads to this day. Kathleen Lights, she's so genuine and really funny. I also relate to her a lot because we both deal with the same struggles in terms of mental health. NikkieTutorials, her looks are so creative and inspiring, I also love that she's a total glamazon. LustreLux + Desi Perkins, I know what you're thinking, you can't have them both in your number four spot but I can't choose between them. I love them both equally, they're two peas in a pod and total best friend goals! MannyMUA, he's also really funny and unfiltered which is what I love about him, he says it like it is!

Q: Do you like multi-functional products like lip and cheek stains?
A: Yes! They come in handy especially when you're traveling.

Q: Are you clumsy in putting makeup?
A: Not necessary clumsy at putting my makeup on but I do constantly drop products when I'm getting ready and create a disaster around my vanity when I'm done. Haha!

Q: Do you use makeup base/primer for the eyes?
A: Yes I do. I have very oily eyelids if I don't prime my lids the eyeshadow will fade.

Q: What do you apply first, concealer or foundation?
A: Foundation first, always.

Q: How many hair products do you use on a typical day?
A: About two or three, one of them being the Macadamia Healing Oil Spray and I'll alternate between the Biolage 3Butter Control System Day Cream and Overnight Mask.

Q: Do you ever consider taking makeup classes?
A: I do, I'd love to learn new techniques, tips and tricks that will help to elevate my makeup game. Perhaps when a celebrity makeup artist comes to Houston I'll attend their workshop.

Q: What do you love about makeup?
A: What I love most about makeup is the confidence it gives me. I also really love the artistic aspect of makeup, it lets your creativity run wild and it can be transformative.
